Former South Florida sportscaster Dave Benz was recently named as a play-by-play announcer at NBC Sports for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. He was called upon to be a late replacement within two weeks prior to the world event and joins former local talent Jill Martin and Julie Donaldson.
Benz will work fencing, synchronized swimming and modern pentathlon events. He has been the television play-by-play announcer for the Minnesota Timberwolves since September 2012.
He was employed at WAMI-TV Channel 69 in Miami as a sports anchor and sports reporter on Sportstown from 1999 until 2001. Benz also held duties as a studio host for Florida Marlins and Miami Heat telecasts.
