Marlins Get Revenge On Royals

Jose Fernandez set a Marlins single-season record with most strikeouts by a pitcher as Miami blanked the Kansas City Royals 3-0 at Marlins Park on Tuesday night. He reached 213 strikeouts during the game and passed Ryan Dempster who had 209 strikeouts with the club in 2000 and Kevin Brown who had 205 K's in 1997.
Fernandez allowed no runs on six hits in seven innings pitched and struck out nine. He was able to get the record strikeout against Alex Gordon in the sixth inning. Kansas City(65-61) had their nine-game winning streak snapped.
Miami(66-60) scored all of their runs in the bottom of the sixth against Dillon Gee. Fernandez got a one-out single to right and Dee Gordon along with Martin Prado followed with base hits to load the bases. Christian Yelich ripped a two-run single into right field which brought in Fernandez and Gordon. Prado would score on a sacrifice fly to left by Marcell Ozuna to make it 3-0.
