The Miami Marlins were shut out by the San Francisco Giants 1-0 on Wednesday at Marlins Park. Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and passed Roberto Clemente for 29th all-time in career base hits. He now stands third all-time in hits for a foreign-born player behind Rafael Palmeiro and Rod Carew.
The only scoring in the game by San Francisco(65-49) happened during the fourth inning. Brandon Crawford nailed a lead-off solo home run to right field against Miami(60-54) starting pitcher David Phelps. Crawford became the first major league player in 41 years to get seven hits in one game on Monday.
The Marlins tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth to tie the contest. Ichiro connected on a ground-rule double to left-center field with two outs. J.T. Realmuto struck out swinging to end the game.
