Former local high school quarterback Lamar Jackson was voted unanimously as the Most Valuable Player of the National Football League for the 2019 season. He was only the second player in NFL history to be MVP with a unanimous vote. The other was Tom Brady of the New England Patriots in 2010.
Jackson was selected 32nd overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 NFL Draft and overtook Joe Flacco for starting quarterback position during the 2018 season. He completed 266 passes for 3,127 yards and a league-leading 36 touchdown passes last year. Jackson set NFL single-season records for a quarterback with 1,206 rushing yards on 159 rushing attempts and led the entire league with 6.9 yards-per-carry in 2019. He led the Ravens to the best record in the NFL last season at 14-2.
He played high school football with the Boynton Beach Tigers. Jackson led them to consecutive district runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2014. He lost in the first round of the FHSAA playoffs twice to Miami Central. Jackson played college football at the University of Louisville for three seasons and won the Heisman Trophy during his sophomore year in 2016.
