Florida Panthers Acquire Patric Hornqvist

The Florida Panthers have acquired right wing Patric Hornqvist from the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Mike Matheson and right wing Colton Sceviour. The Panthers were trying to add more space available for their salary cap over the next couple of seasons.
Hornqvist helped the Penguins win two straight Stanley Cup titles in 2016 and 2017. He had 132 goals and 132 assists in 407 games during his seven seasons with the Pens. Hornqvist played the first six seasons of his NHL career with the Nashville Predators.
Matheson leaves the Panthers after five seasons with the club. He first got noticed as a replacement on the team during the first round of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the New York Islanders. He played 299 games with the Cats and compiled 33 goals along with 58 assists.
Sceviour ended a four-year run with Florida. He was involved in 284 games with the team and put together 31 goals and 48 assists. Sceviour was mainly used on the checking line and on the penalty-killing unit.
