The Miami Marlins knocked off the New York Yankees 4-3 in 10 innings at Yankee Stadium on Friday night to clinch a National League playoff spot. It is the Marlins first appearance in the postseason since 2003.
Miami(30-28) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Garrett Cooper smashed a three-run homer to right field on the first pitch. Jesus Aguilar and Brian Anderson were able to score in front of him on the play.
New York(32-26) were down 3-2 in the bottom of the third. Aaron Hicks doubled into right field for D.J. LeMahieu and Aaron Judge to score.
The Yankees tied the contest 3-3 in the eighth inning. Judge hit a single to shallow right field and Mike Tauchman crossed the plate.
In the 10th inning, the Marlins reclaimed the lead. Aguilar powered a sacrifice fly to deep right for Monte Harrison to reach home.
