Patriots Pay Back Dolphins

The New England Patriots held off the Miami Dolphins 21-11 to open up the 2020 NFL regular season at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots lost the final game of the season last year in Miami and dropped from the second seed to the third seed of the AFC playoffs.
New England(1-0) got out in front 7-0 at 13:12 in the second quarter. Quarterback Cam Newton went through the right side of the line to score from four yards out.
Miami(0-1) closed it to 7-3 with 3:53 left in the first half. Jason Saunders booted a 46-yard field goal for them.
In the third quarter, the Patriots expanded their lead to 14-3 at the 10:14 mark. Newton rushed out of the pocket toward the right sideline and scored from 11 yards away.
The Dolphins got their only touchdown of the contest at 10:31 of the final quarter. Running back Jordan Howard rumbled to the left side of the end zone from one yard. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick added a two-point conversion on a running play and they trailed 14-11.
New England capped the scoring with 5:23 to go. Former American Heritage running back busted through for one yard up the middle to give them a 21-11 lead.
