Smith spent last season as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. He entered the NFL coaching ranks with the New Orleans Saints in 2010 and stayed there until 2014. Smith then was with the Chicago Bears from 2015 to 2017 as a tight ends coach. He joined the Raiders organization as a tight ends coach from 2018 to 2020.
