Carrollwood Day(12-1) rocketed out to a 7-0 lead at the start of the contest. Brooklyn Maxey returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.
Cardinal Newman(11-3) answered back on their first possession of the game to tie it up 7-7 three minutes later. Janarro Sumpter scored on a touchdown run.
The Crusaders would then intercept a pass. It led to a a rushing touchdown and a 14-7 advantage with six minutes to go in the first quarter.
They intercepted another pass and returned it to the end zone with 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter. It gave them a 21-7 advantage.
The Patriots loss the ball on downs at the Crusaders 10-yard line. It became 28-7 for Cardinal Newman with three minutes left in the second on a touchdown pass.
Cardinal Newman extended their lead to 34-7 on their first possession of the second half. They picked up a running touchdown two minutes into the third quarter.
Carrollwood Day responded on their next drive to make it 34-13 with eight minutes left in the third. They scored on a touchdown run, however they missed on the extra point.
The Crusaders reached the end zone again for a 41-13 lead with five minutes remaining in the third quarter. They did it on a touchdown completion.
The Patriots fired back and cut it to 41-19 with two minutes to go in the quarter. They scored on a touchdown run, however they failed to make the two-point conversion.
Carrollwood Day did get another rushing touchdown with three minutes left in the final quarter. The Patriots took control of the ball on a fumble by the Crusaders and scored on a touchdown run with one minute to go. They made the two-point conversion run and closed it to 41-33.
Cardinal Newman recovered a failed onside kick by the Patriots and had great field position. They finished up the drive on a touchdown run with less than a minute left for a 48-33 lead.
