Neither team was able to score during the first quarter. Miami(6-8) got in front 3-0 with 5:17 left in the second quarter when Riley Patterson kicked a 54-yard field goal.
Pittsburgh(8-6) jumped to a 7-3 lead with 17 seconds to go in the second. Connor Heyward plunged through the middle of the line for a one-yard touchdown run. It was Heyward's first rushing touchdown in his NFL career.
In the third quarter, the Steelers made it 14-3 at the 11:20 mark. Aaron Rogers connected a 19-yard touchdown pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling on the left side.
It became 21-3 for Pittsburgh with 4:58 remaining in the third. Rogers tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Metcalf. on the left hash marks.
The Steelers expanded it to a 28-3 advantage at 13:01 of the final quarter. Jonnu Smith burned his former team when he sprinted around the right end on a 14-yard touchdown run.
The Fins closed it to 28-9 with 9:41 left in the quarter. Tua Tagovailoa found Darren Waller on the right side with a six-yard touchdown toss. Miami failed on the two-point conversion.
The Dolphins cut it to 28-15 with 2:32 to go in the fourth. Waller caught his second touchdown pass of the game from Tagovailoa from 13 yards away. They missed again on the two-point conversion pass.
