It was a game on Friday night that involved two sister-schools named American Heritage as the Plantation Patriots held on to beat the Delray Stallions 28-6 at Heritage Field. It was the first time that both teams met for a the regular season contest.
The Patriots compiled the only score of the first quarter as running back Sony Michel ran around the right end from seven yards away for a 7-0 lead.
The Stallions got on the scoreboard with 4:11 left in the first half as Nick Rabinowitz made a 41-yard field goal and closed the gap to 7-3.
American Heritage-Plantation(1-1) woke up on offense after Isaiah McKenzie was injured when he brought back a punt return just under five minutes into the second half. They scored three unanswered touchdowns during the third quarter.
After the McKenzie injury, Michel finished the drive with a five-yard touchdown run around the left end at 6:33 to make it 14-3.
American Heritage-Delray(1-1) tried to fake a punt deep in their own end as they were stopped by the Patriots defense at the 13-yard line. Following an offside penalty, Brandon Johnson caught an 18-yard reception on the right side of the end zone for a score with 5:26 to go and a 21-3 lead.
The Patriots scored their final touchdown of the game with 1:56 remaining in the third as backup running back Fillon Dyer dashed up the middle from 12 yards away and increased their lead to 28-3.
In the fourth quarter, the Stallions could only garner a 24-yard field goal by Rabinowitz with 2:43 left in the game.
