Former Miami television sportscaster John Henry Smith III has joined Al Jazeera America in Washington, D.C. as a sports anchor and sports reporter. He leaves a similar position that he held at Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area in San Francisco from July 2011 to September 2013. He also was a sideline reporter for Golden State Warriors telecasts during the 2011-12 season.
Smith, a Syracuse University grad, was a sports anchor at WPLG-TV Channel 10 in Miami from May 2004 until July 2009. He then worked for WVUE-TV in New Orleans from October 2009 to July 2011. The first on-air position in his broadcasting career was at News 14 Carolina in Raleigh as a sports reporter and sports anchor from 2002 until 2004.
