The Miami Marlins were unable to get any offensive production as they were shut out by the Washington Nationals 8-0 at Nationals Park on Friday night. The Fish could only muster two base hits in the game.
Miami(56-98) starting pitcher Jacob Turner gave up five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings and dropped to 3-8. Jordan Zimmermann pitched a two-hit complete-game shutout and struck out nine as he improved to 19-8 this season.
Washington(83-71) had to wait until the sixth inning to score as they put up seven runs during that frame. Denard Span singled to right and Ryan Zimmerman singled to left. Jayson Werth knocked both of them in on a double into deep left field. Bryce Harper brought in Werth on a double to right-center field. After Ian Desmond grounded out and Adam LaRoche walked, Chris Hatcher replaced Turner on the mound. Wilson Ramos came to bat and picked up an RBI-single to center as Harper scored. Anthony Rendon added to the rout with a base hit to left field as LaRoche crossed the plate for a 5-0 lead. Two batters later, Span got his second hit of the inning on a triple to deep right field to score Rendon and Zimmermann.
The Nats added another run during the seventh inning against Brad Hand. Jayson Werth walked and two batters later scored on a double by Desmond to center field.
