The Florida Panthers finalized their roster on Monday for the start of the 2013-14 regular season. 23 players on the roster will be allowed to participate and take to the ice at the beginning of the upcoming campaign. Their first game to commemorate the Florida Panthers 20th NHL season is on the road against the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
The club will carry 14 forwards as they enter the season. Tomas Kopecky, Tomas Fleischmann, Kris Versteeg, Jonathan Huberdeau, Shawn Matthias. Scottie Upshall, Marcel Goc and Drew Shore return back to the Cats from last season. They picked up several forwards during the off-season which includes Scott Gomez, Jesse Winchester, Brad Boyes, Krys Barch and Joey Crabb. Aleksander Barkov. the Panthers first round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, is the only rookie on the roster.
The defensemen will consist of Brian Campbell, Erik Gudbranson, Dmitry Kulikov. Mike Weaver along with recent free agents Ryan Whitney, Tom Gilbert and Matt Gilroy. The Cats will have newcomer Tim Thomas and Jacob Markstrom as goalies for them.
Defenseman Ed Jovanovski, goalie Scott Clemmensen, forwards Sean Bergenheim, Nick Bjudstad and Steve Pinizzotto are the five players will begin the season on injured reserve.
