The Florida Panthers have signed goalie Tim Thomas to a one-year deal on Thursday. He agreed to a professional tryout offer with the team back on September 16. He has only practiced with the club and not appeared in any of their preseason games.
Thomas decided not to play at all during the 2012-13 season. His rights were traded by the Boston Bruins to New York Islanders last season. He last played for the B's during the 2011-12 campaign.
Thomas captured the Stanley Cup in 2011 as the starting goalie of the Bruins as they defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games, which included Game 7 on the road. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy for the most valuable player of the playoffs.
He played his entire NHL career with the Boston Bruins and made his debut during the 2002-03 season. Thomas has played 378 games and compiled a career record of 191-121-5 along with a 2.48 goals-against average in eight NHL seasons. He won the Vezina Trophy in 2009 and 2011 for being the top goalie in the National Hockey League.
