Cubs Overcome Marlins

The Miami Marlins were unable to sweep the Chicago Cubs as they lost 9-7 on Wednesday at Wrigley Field in the final game of a three-game series. The Marlins had their three-game winning streak snapped as they dropped to 23-47 on the road.
Brian Flynn made his major league debut for Miami(52-86) as their starting pitcher. He allowed three runs on six hits in four innings pitched. Chicago(59-80) starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija went six innings, struck out nine and gave up six runs on nine hits.
The Fish got the lead during the second inning against Samardzija. Giancarlo Stanton led off with an infield single and Justin Ruggiano struck out swinging. Logan Morrison came up and hit the first pitch for a homer to right field. It was his fifth home run this season and his first since July 6 in St. Louis.
The Cubbies scored a run in the bottom of the frame off Flynn with a two-out rally. Junior Lake doubled to left field and then scored on a double by Darnell McDonald into deep left-center field.
Starlin Castro began the third inning for Chicago with a solo home run to right field on a 2-0 pitch to tie the game. Three batter later, Dioner Navarro added another solo homer to center field on a 2-1 count as the Cubs took their first lead 3-2.
Miami retook the lead 6-3 in the top of the sixth inning with four runs. Stanton stroked a one-out single to left field, Ruggiano singled to center and Morrison walked to load the bases. Adeiny Hechavarria blasted a grand slam homer to center field on a 1-0 pitch for his third home run this year.
The Cubs closed the margin in the bottom of the sixth as Ryan Sweeney nailed a one-out solo home run to center field against Arquimedes Caminero on a 3-2 pitch during an at-bat that involved ten pitches.
Carlos Villanueva relieved for Samardzija in the seventh inning and surrendered a lead-off triple by Ruggiano to deep right field. Navarro was charged with an error when he attempted to pick off Ruggiano following a pitch which resulted in him scoring.
Chicago mounted a big inning in the seventh with four runs and regained the lead. A.J. Ramos walked Darwin Barney and Anthony Rizzo. Both came home to score as Navarro singled into left field. Donnie Murphy followed with a two-run homer to left off the first pitch thrown by incoming pitcher Ryan Webb.
In the eighth inning for the Cubs, Brian Bogusevic started with a base hit into center field and was then driven in by Castro on a double to right.
