Marlins pitcher Brian Flynn made his second major league career start as Miami fell to the Atlanta Braves 6-1 on Thursday at Marlins Park. The Fish will begin an 11-game road trip on Friday which is the final time this season that the club will be away.
Atlanta(88-58) jumped out to a 4-0 lead during the third inning. Flynn surrendered three straight walks to Elliot Johnson, Justin Upton and Freddie Freeman as the Bravos loaded the bases. Evan Gattis nailed a double into left field to score Johnson and Upton. Chris Johnson followed with a double to deep left field as Freeman and Gattis scored.
Rob Brantly begin the bottom of the third for Miami(54-91) against Freddy Garcia with a base hit to center and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Flynn. After Chris Coghlan struck out, Brantly scored on a single by Donovan Solano to left field to make it 4-1.
The Braves extended their lead in the fourth inning to 6-1. Upton got on base with a two-out walk and Freeman came up and crushed a 2-2 pitch over the right-center field wall for his 20th home run this season.
Flynn dropped to 0-1 as he gave up six runs on six hits and walked six in four innings. Garcia improved to 4-6 as he allowed one run on five hits in six innings.
