Cardinals Fly By Marlins

The Miami Marlins returned home and were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 9-4 at Marlins Park on Monday night. The Fish have now lost four of five and 10 of their last 13 games. The Cardinals jumped the Cincinnati Reds and moved to first place in the National League Central Division.
The Marlins had played the least amount of home contests in Major League Baseball with 11 prior to this game. Miami began a stretch in which they play 19 of their next 25 games in South Florida.
St. Louis(17-14) attacked with three runs in the top of the second. Carlos Martinez cleared the bases with a bases-loaded double into left-center field which scored Yadier Molina, Aledmys Diaz and Magneuris Sierra.
The Redbirds added four runs in the fourth inning to get up 7-0. Martinez got an RBI-single to left and Sierra scored. Matt Carpenter followed with a two-run triple into right field to score Martinez and Kolten Wong. Jedd Gyorko capped the rally with a double to right for Carpenter to score.
Miami(13-18) responded in the bottom of the frame to get on the scoreboard. Marcell Ozuna ripped a two-run homer to center on the first pitch and Christopher Yelich scored on the play.
The Marlins added two solo home runs later in the contest. Ozuna hit his second homer of the contest in the sixth while Giancarlo Stanton smashed a solo shot in the ninth inning.
