The St. Louis Cardinals came from behind to top the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The Fish have lost five of their last six games and 11 of 14. The Cards remained in first place in the N.L. Central.
St. Louis(18-14) put up one run during the fifth inning. Tommy Pham doubled into left-center field for Yadier Molina to score.
After scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth, Miami(13-19) piled on four runs in the sixth inning to go up 5-1. Derek Dietrich ripped a base hit and drove in two runs. Justin Bour followed with an RBI-single to right field and then J.T. Riddle hit a sacrifice fly to center field for Dietrich to score.
The Cardinals came back with their own four-run rally in the top of the eight inning. Matt Adams came up to pinch-hit and got an RBI-base hit to make it 5-2. Wong walked to load the bases, then Magneuris Sierra scored on a long sacrifice fly by Randall Grichuk to left field. Matt Carpenter walked to get the bases loaded again. Jedd Gyorko singled to left which brought in Adams and Wong to tie the game at 5-5.
In the ninth inning, St. Louis regained the lead. Pinch-hitter Dexter Fowler placed a single into right field for Sierra to score from second base with one out.
