The Miami Marlins were swept at home by the St. Louis Cardinals 7-5 at Marlins Park on Wednesday night. The Marlins have fell in six of their last seven contests and 12 of their last 15 games.
The Cardinals won their ninth consecutive game on the road and have not done that since 1970. In addition, they came back from four runs behind in their second straight road game for the first time since 1935.
Miami(13-20) roared out to a 4-0 lead with a two-out rally during the first inning. Christian Yelich nailed a solo home run to center on 3-1 pitch. Three batters later, Justin Bour blasted a three-run homer on a 2-2 count which scored Marcell Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton.
St. Louis(19-14) responded with three runs in the top of the third. Jedd Gyorko singled to right field which brought in Magneuris Sierra and Kolten Wong. Matt Carpenter then scored on an RBI-single by Yadier Molina to center.
The Redbirds got the lead in the sixth inning. Dexter Fowler ripped a triple into right-center field for Tommy Pham along with Sierra to cross the plate and make it 5-4. Fowler would later score on a sacrifice fly to center by Wong.
The Fish closed the gap to 6-5 in the bottom of the frame. Derek Dietrich knocked in Dee Gordon with a base hit into right field.
The Cardinals added one more run in the seventh inning. Gyorko scored on a single by Aledmys Diaz to center.
