Former University of Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Cortez Kennedy passed away on Tuesday at the age of 48. He played on a national champion while with the Canes in 1989. He was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
Kennedy was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks as the third overall pick in 1990 and played with them for 11 seasons. He was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
His uniform number 96 was retired by the Seahawks franchise in 2012. He was recognized by Sports Illustrated in 2007 and later in the book By The Numbers several years ago as the greatest athlete to ever wear that uniform number in any sport.
