Marlins 30th Anniversary In Existence

Thursday marked the 30th anniversary that major league baseball was coming to South Florida. Major League Baseball awarded a National League expansion team to H. Wayne Huizenga on June 10, 1991. It would be named the Florida Marlins.
It took some time for the club to be put together business and baseball operations departments. They did have a minor league team in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1992.
The Florida Marlins played their first major league game at Joe Robbie Stadium on April 5, 1993. Charlie Hough started their first contest on the mound as the Marlins defeated the Los Angeles Dodgets 6-3.
The Marlins won two World Series championships in franchise history. They edged the Cleveland Indians 4-3 in 1997 and upset the New York Yankees 4-2 in 2003.
The team moved to a new stadium called Marlins Park in 2012. They would be renamed the Miami Marlins prior to that season.
