Red Sox Race By Marlins

The Miami Marlins finished off a nine-game road trip with a 5-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Monday night. It was a make-up game because their contest on May 30 was postponed. The Marlins ended up with a 1-8 record on the road and return home Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies.
Boston(37-23) got up 1-0 during the first inning in an unusual way. Marlins pitcher Zach Thompson, who made his major league debut, threw a wild pitch that went off catcher Jorge Alfaro and rolled to 15 feet in front of home plate. Xander Bogeaerts dove on home from third with nobody covering.
The Red Sox increased it to 2-0 in the third inning. Alex Verdugo sliced a double into the left-field corner to score Christian Arroyo.
Miami(25-34) placed one run in the top of the fourth. Alfaro singled into center field for Adam Duvall to reach home.
It became 5-1 for Boston in the bottom of the fourth as they compiled three more runs. Arroyo got a base hit to right as Kevin Plawecki and Enrique Hernandez scored. Verdugo came up next and knocked in Arroyo with a single to right field.
The Marlins made it 5-2 in the fifth inning. Starling Marte lifted a solo home run over the center-field wall for his fourth homer of the year.
The Fish attempted to come back in the top of the ninth. Isan Diaz doubled against the shift down the third-base line for Corey Dickerson to score. Miami left the tying on second to end the game.
