Marlins Smoke Through Rockies

The Miami Marlins pounded the Colorado Rockies 11-4 at loanDepot park on Thursday night. The Marlins, who have won three of their last five games, next face the Atlanta Braves this weekend. It was the 30th anniversary that Miami and Denver were both awarded Major League Baseball expansion franchises.
Miami(27-35) broke out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Adam Duvall connected with a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch. Corey Dickerson was able to score in front of him on the play. It was the second straight contest that Duvall homered against the Rockies. Duvall compiled his 11th home run of the year.
The Marlins expanded the gap to 5-0 when Jazz Chisholm belted a three-run homer to right field on a 0-2 count with Jose Devers and Jon Berti aboard. Starling Marte followed with a solo home run over the center-field fence on a 2-1 pitch for his fifth homer of the campaign.
It became 8-0 for the Marlins in the fifth inning. Devers drove in Jorge Alfaro on a single to shallow right-center. Berti came up next and lined a double into right-center field for Devers to cross the plate.
Colorado(25-38) gave up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 11-0. Chisholm reached home on a passed ball by Elias Diaz. Jesus Aguilar later knocked in Marte with a double to the left-field corner. Three batters later, Alfaro singled through the left side and Lewin Diaz scored.
The Rockies broke the shutout in the seventh inning. Brendan Rodgers lifted a solo home run to left-center field on the first pitch. They got another tally when Yonathan Daza grounded out to third for Trevor Story to score.
In the eighth inning, Colorado added two more runs and were down 11-4. Rodgers ripped a base hit through the left side and C.J. Cron reached home. Two batters later, Ryan McMahon hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Raimel Tapia scored.
