Panthers Outduel Ducks

The Florida Panthers survived the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in overtime at FLA Live Arena on Tuesday night. The Panthers reached the 300-goal plateau for the regular season. Florida, who are now 31-6-0 at home this season, extended their winning streak to eight games.
It was the final appearance by Ducks center and captain Ryan Getzlaf in Sunrise. He announced that 2021-22 would be his final NHL season.
Anaheim(29-33-13) took a 1-0 lead at the 7:38 mark of the first period. Troy Terry scored his team-leading 33rd goal of the season. Trevor Zegras and Derek Grant were credited with assists on the play.
In the second period, Florida(52-15-6) answered back to tie it 1-1 at 1:44. Aleksander Barkov sent a cross-corner pass from the left point into the right corner. Carter Verhaeghe moved the puck to the end wall. Anthony Duclair backhanded a centering pass from behind the cage and it went off Jamie Drysdale's skate into the net.
The Ducks regained the lead 2-1 with 2:36 left in the period. Adam Henrique won the right-circle faceoff and passed it back to Jamie Drysdale on the right point. He snapped a shot from the right wing and it was redirected by Grant at the top of the crease by Sergei Bobrovsky for his 14th goal this season.
It became 2-2 with 9:51 remaining in the third period as the Panthers scored on the power play. Claude Giroux made a forward pass from the top left circle to Sam Reinhart on the left goal line. He connected a cross-ice pass and Duclair lifted a wrist shot from the low right circle by John Gibson for his second tally of the contest and 30th goal of the season.
In overtime, Florida put the game away at the 3:41 mark. Jonathan Huberdeau stripped Terry of the puck in the slot area and roofed a second-chance forehand shot from the left of the crease for his 28th goal this season. Huberdeau increased his point streak to 12 games.
