Marlins Avoid Sweep To Phillies

The Miami Marlins slipped by the Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 in 10 innings at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins, who snapped a five-game losing streak, have won five of their last 12 contests.
Philadelphia(28-13) rocketed out to a 3-0 lead during the top of the first. Nick Castellanos belted a three-run homer to left-center field on the first pitch for his fourth home run of the season. Alec Bohm and Bryce Harper scored in front of him on the play.
Miami(11-31) started their comeback in the second inning. Jesus Sanchez knocked in Josh Bell with a ground-rule double to center field.
The Marlins added three more runs to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third. Bell powered a three-run home run to center field for Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jake Burger to score. Bell chalked up his fifth homer of the 2024 campaign.
It became 6-4 in the bottom of the fourth for the Fish. Christian Bethancourt made a sacrifice bunt to the right side and Vidal Brujan crossed the plate. Chisholm followed with a triple to the right-field fence and Otto Lopez scored.
In the top of the sixth, the Phils tied it up 6-6. Edmundo Sosa drove in Harper and Bryson Stott on a triple down the left-field line. Brandon Marsh came up next and got a sacrifice fly to center field for Sosa to reach home.
Miami won the contest in the bottom of the 10th for a 7-6 victory. Emmanuel Rivera singled off the glove of Phillies relief pitcher Gregory Soto and bounced through the right side for Nick Fortes to score.
