Diamondbacks Take First Game

In the first major league doubleheader ever played in Arizona, the Diamondbacks got by the Miami Marlins 3-2 to win game one at Chase Field on Wednesday. Arizona has hosted their home games in a stadium with a retractable roof since they entered the National League in 1998. All the runs in the game were scored in the first three innings.
Jacob Turner made his Marlins debut as the starting pitcher. He had been promoted from their Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans recently. Turner went six innings. struck out five and allowed three runs on four hits. He made three starts with the Detroit Tigers earlier this season before being acquired by Miami. Diamondbacks starter Tyler Skaggs made his major league debut as he gave up two runs on three hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Arizona greeted Turner with two runs in the first inning. It was the second straight game that the Marlins give up several runs before getting their first out. Gerardo Parra led off the frame with a single into right field and Aaron Hill followed with a two-run homer to left field on a 0-1 count. It was the 18th home run by Hill this season.
Miami answered back immediately and tied the game in the second inning. Giancarlo Stanton began as he walked on four pitches. Justin Ruggiano cracked a two-run homer to center field on a 0-1 pitch for his 12th home run.
It was the same combination in the third inning as the Diamondbacks retook the lead and stayed in front for the remainder of the game. Parra picked up a single to right field with one out and then scored on single to left field by Hill for the winning run.
