Marlins Destroy Mets

Jose Reyes smashed a home run to increase his hitting streak to 26 games as the Miami Marlins were victorious with a 13-0 shutout over the New York Mets. He is now tied with the second longest hit streak in Marlins history with Emilio Bonifacio who accomplished it back in 2010. Giancarlo Stanton also added two home runs off Mets starter Chris Young in the Marlins win.
Nathan Eovaldi(3-7) got the win for the Fish as he pitched five innings of scoreless ball and gave up four hits. Young(3-6) lasted 4 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits.
Reyes extended his hit streak with a two-out solo home run to right field on a 0-1 count in the first inning. It was his eighth homer this season. Carlos Lee walked and was followed by a two-run home run by Stanton on the first pitch to left-center field for a 3-0 lead.
Miami picked up four runs in the fifth inning. With one out, Justin Ruggiano hit a ground-rule double to deep center field and Reyes then walked. Both guys were able to pull off a double steal and advanced one base. Lee picked up a two-run single to shallow left to make it 5-0. Stanton blasted his second home run which was a two-run shot to left field on a 2-2 pitch. It was his 21st homer this year.
The Marlins added another four-spot in the eighth inning as they able to load the bases with one out against Garrett Olsen. Bryan Petersen cracked a triple into center field to score Greg Dobbs, John Buck and Gorkys Hernandez. Ruggiano then knocked in Petersen on an infield single.
In the ninth inning, Stanton started with a single to shallow center field and Scott Cousins came in as a pinch-runner. Dobbs increased the lead to 13-0 on a two-run homer to right-center on a 2-1 count for his third home run this season.
