The Miami Marlins were swept in the first major league doubleheader ever played in Arizona as they were blanked 3-0 by the Diamondbacks in the second game on Wednesday night at Chase Field. It was the tenth time in Marlins history that they lost both ends of a doubleheader. Miami returns to action on Friday in Los Angeles against former teammate Hanley Ramirez and the Dodgers.
Wade LeBlanc(2-3) pitched seven innings for the Fish and allowed two earned runs on five hits. Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley(14-8) had an eight-inning shutout and gave up four hits while J.J. Putz finished the ninth inning for his 26th save.
The Marlins give up at least one run in the first inning for the third straight game of this series. A.J Pollack led off with a single into right field. He scored three batters later on a Paul Goldschmidt single to right for a 1-0 lead.
The D-Backs added two more runs in the fourth inning. Aaron Hill started with a walk and Goldschmidt doubled to deep center field. After Chris Young popped out to second, Chris Johnson ripped a single to right field which brought in Hill. Wil Nieves then struck out and John McDonald was intentionally walked to load the bases. Goldschmidt scored on a passed ball while Miley was at-bat for Arizona.
