Ricky Nolasco pitched a complete game five-hit shutout for the Miami Marlins as they pounded the Washington Nationals 9-0 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. He improved his record to 10-12 as he struck out six. Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg, who had held Miami scoreless in 27 innings, fell to 15-6 as he went five innings and gave up five earned runs on nine hits.
The Marlins got to Strasburg two batters in as Justin Ruggiano cranked a solo home run to left-center field for his 13th homer of the season. After Jose Reyes grounded out, Carlos Lee picked up a double to deep left center. Giancarlo Stanton followed with an RBI-single to right field for a Miami 2-0 lead.
Bryan Petersen began the bottom of the third with a hit to left and then stole second. Ruggiano walked and was out on a fielder's choice by Reyes. Lee got on base as Danny Espinosa made a fielding error and Ruggiano scored. Stanton struck out then Greg Dobbs had a two-run single to center as Reyes and Lee crossed the plate.
In the fourth inning, Rob Brantly led off with a single into right field. He scored three batters later as Ruggiano singled to left and extended the Marlins lead to 6-0.
Stanton doubled to left field with one out in the fifth inning and advanced to third on a Dobbs fly out to center. Donovan Solano drove Stanton in on a single to left field.
The Marlins added two runs in the sixth inning off Craig Stamman. With the bases loaded and two out, Stanton socked a single into center field to bring in Nolasco and Ruggiano.
