FM Simulcast For The Ticket

Lincoln Financial Media has just acquired WMSF-FM 104.3 from Palm Beach Broadcasting for around $13 million. They are expected to flip the station to a sports format and become a simulcast of 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. Lincoln Financial Media will have a local marketing agreement until the deal is approved by the FCC. The Miami/Fort Lauderdale region will now join the increased trend of major cities in the United States that have a sports station on an FM frequency.
Palm Beach Broadcasting acquired the frequency from CBS Radio back in April. Dean Goodman, owner and CEO of Palm Beach Broadcasting, decided to move the transmitter signal from just south of Wellington in the West Palm Beach market to Miami Gardens in the Miami market. It was his intend when they bought the station to spin it off and find a buyer because his organization was over the limit with FM stations in the West Palm Beach market.

Sid Rosenberg Is Back

Sid Rosenberg will begin his new morning show on 640 Sports WMEN-AM on Monday. He would have started earlier this summer, but his previous employer WQAM would not release him from his contract due to a non-compete clause. His associates on the morning program will include executive producer Marc Eisenberg along with producers Danny Garcia and Steve Zemach. All three previously worked with Rosenberg at WQAM.
Rosenberg joined Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM in September 2009 as a midday host. He moved to the afternoon shift in June 2010 and replaced Curtis Stevenson and Anita Marks. He held the spot until early April 2012 when he was fired for his arrest on DUI and driving with a suspended license.
Rosenberg worked at CBS Sportsline in Fort Lauderdale first as a salesman then as a sports co-host with Scott Kaplan. They moved their show The Drive to New York City and worked mornings at WNEW-FM.
He then landed at Sports Radio 66 WFAN-AM where he was the morning sports anchor for the Imus In The Morning Show. He added midday co-host duties with Jody McDonald and later with Joe Benigno. He worked there from 2001 until 2005 when he was let go after he did not show up for the New York Giants pregame show as studio host.
Rosenberg returned to Florida and joined 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in late 2005 as a fill-in host. He was promoted to co-host middays with O.J. McDuffie. After Joe Rose's departure to WQAM, he was reassigned to become the morning show host. He held that position until May 2009 when he was released from that station.

Perkins leaves 640 Sports after one year as the morning co-host with three different versions of the program. He joined the station in August 2011 as part of the Armando and The Amigo Show with Armando Salguero and Larry Milian. Marlins Destroy Mets

Jose Reyes smashed a home run to increase his hitting streak to 26 games as the Miami Marlins were victorious with a 13-0 shutout over the New York Mets. He is now tied with the second longest hit streak in Marlins history with Emilio Bonifacio who accomplished it back in 2010. Giancarlo Stanton also added two home runs off Mets starter Chris Young in the Marlins win.
Nathan Eovaldi(3-7) got the win for the Fish as he pitched five innings of scoreless ball and gave up four hits. Young(3-6) lasted 4 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits.

Miami/Fort Lauderdale Arbitron Ratings July

Once again 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM continued as the top sports format radio station in Miami/Fort Lauderdale for the month of July. Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM remained flat from the previous month while 940 WINZ-AM The Sports Animal dropped off the map this past month. The July ratings seemed to be a disappointment for all the stations.
790 The Ticket took a big fall from a 1.6 in June to a 0.9 in July. The audience from broadcasting the Miami Heat championship run in June did not carry into the next month. The Miami Marlins had a dismal month in July as interest waned. The station also had numerous people who tried to fill in the morning co-host position with Marc Hochman after Jon Weiner, aka Stugotz, had enough of working double duty every weekday at that station through early July.
Sports Radio 560 stayed the same with a 0.7 in July just like they did in June. The ratings period ended in a crash for the station when midday host Michael Irvin was let go after being there for two years. It has also been hurt with no game broadcasts of any local team in July.
940 The Sports Animal totally disappeared from the ratings and could not garner even a 0.1 in July. The station had a 0.4 back in June. It seemed the audience is waiting for the start of training camp for the Miami Dolphins on their flagship station. The last local sports station that recorded less than a 0.1 was 1400 The Fan WFLL-AM which they did on a constant basis between 2004 and 2006.

Marlins Take Mets

The Miami Marlins got a four-run rally in the fourth inning as they edged the New York Mets 4-2 on Tuesday night at Citi Field. Jose Reyes extended his hitting streak to 25 games. Carlos Zambrano(7-9) picked up the win after pitching 1 1/3 innings of hitless ball in middle relief. Marlins starter Wade LeBlanc was unable to qualify for the win because he went only four innings.
Miami handled Mets starting pitcher Jonathan Niese(8-6) as they blew the game open with four runs in the fourth. The Marlins began with two infield singles by Justin Ruggiano and Jose Reyes. Ruggiano scored on a Carlos Lee single to left field. Giancarlo Stanton hit an RBI-sacrifice fly to center field and brought in Reyes.
Austin Kearns singled into right center and advanced Lee to second. Two batters later, John Buck doubled into right field to score Lee and Kearns for a 4-0 lead.
Daniel Murphy socked a lead-off home run to right field in the fifth inning for his fourth homer of the season. Later in the frame, the Mets continued with a two-out rally as Jason Bay and Ike Davis singled into left field. Bay scored on a single to right field by Andres Torres.

Zaslow Stays At WAXY Mornings

Jonathan Zaslow was named the permanent morning co-host with Marc Hochman on 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. Zaslow began filling in mornings since the first week of July. Jon Weiner. aka Stugotz, continues with the Dan LeBatard Show in the afternoon after two months as an interim morning co-host with Hochman.
Zaslow had limited shifts at night since late June because 790 The Ticket is the flagship station of Miami Marlins game broadcasts. He would have only one or two shifts per week with the Marlins playing weeknight games through early October.
Zaslow began at 790 The Ticket in 2004 as a midday producer for the Jon "Boog" Sciambi Show. He added weekend co-host duties at the station. He replaced Kevin Rogers as the evening host and became the studio host of the Florida Panthers Radio Network. Zaslow shifted to middays in May 2009 when Jorge Sedano took over the morning show. He returned back to evenings in September 2009.

Nats Beat Marlins

The Washington Nationals put up four runs in the second inning to defeat the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Sunday at Nationals Park. Jose Reyes extended his hitting streak to 24 games with a single in the fourth inning. Stephen Strasburg improved his record to 12-5 as he pitched six scoreless innings, struck out six and allowed three hits.
Washington began the second inning as Jason Werth singled to left and Danny Espinosa was hit by a pitch. Both advances on a fly out to center by Jesus Flores. Strasburg singled to deep right field to bring in Werth and Espinosa for a 2-0 lead.
Steve Lombardozzi followed with a walk and Bryce Harper singled into right to load the bases off Ricky Nolasco(8-11). Two batters later, Strasburg and Lombardozzi scored on a two-run single by Adam LaRoche to center field.
The Marlins closed the gap against Craig Stammen in the seventh inning. Carlos Lee led off with a double to left field and then scored on a Greg Dobbs double to deep right-center field.

Braves Chop Marlins

The Atlanta Braves came out strong and walloped the Miami Marlins 6-1 on Thursday night at Turner Field. The Bravos got to Nathan Eovaldi(2-7) early as he allowed six runs on eight hits in two innings pitched. The game was delayed in the fourth inning for 42 minutes due to rain, however the Marlins were unfortunate that the game was not postponed.
Atlanta got three runs in the first inning off Eovaldi. New Braves outfielder Reed Johnson got a one-out single to right-center field and Jason Heyward followed with a single to right field. Johnson and Heyward scored on a double to deep left-center field by Chipper Jones. Three batters later, Dan Uggla knocked in Jones with a single to left.
The Braves added to their lead in the second inning. Michael Bourn singled to right then Johnson was hit by a pitch. Heyward singled to left field as Bourn scored. Freddie Freeman doubled to deep right field two batters later and brought in Johnson along with Heyward.
Jose Reyes extended his hit streak to 20 games with a lead-off triple to deep left field in the sixth inning. Carlos Lee broke the shutout with a sacrifice fly into right to score Reyes. The Marlins travel to Washington and play a doubleheader on Friday against the Nationals.

Lengyel Shifts To Middays

Erik Lengyel has moved to a different shift at 640 Sports WMEN-AM. He is now the midday sports anchor and midday producer for the Troy Stafford Show and the Andy Slater Show. The upcoming Sid Rosenberg morning show to launch on August 13 picked up Steve Zemach and Danny Garcia as the new morning producers. Both came from Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM in July.
Lengyel was the morning show producer and board operator since the station flipped to a sports format in March 2008. He was involved with the Jeff DeForest Show, Armando and the Amgo along with the Armando and Perk Show. He was also a Saturday late morning co-host on the station earlier this year. Lengyel has been a game analyst for the Broward County high school football game of the week on Friday nights at WWNN-AM 1470 for several years.

Marlins Down Braves

The Miami Marlins evaded the Atlanta Braves with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night at Turner Field in the third game of a four-game series. Carlos Zambano(6-9) won the game not as a starter but as a middle reliever. He went 1 2/3 innings and allowed one run on two hits. Ben Sheets(3-1) took the loss for the Braves as he gave up four runs on eleven hits in 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight.
The Marlins exploded with three runs in the first inning. Emilio Bonifacio led off with a single to center and then stole second base. Donnie Murphy singled to left and went to second on a sacrifice by Jose Reyes. Carlos Lee picked up an RBI-single to right field as Bonifacio scored. Murphy scored on a single by Greg Dobbs to center field. Bryan Petersen knocked in Lee on a single to right field.
The Bravos got a run in the second inning as Paul Janish smacked a two-out double to center field and brought in Freddie Freeman. He got a one-out single to get the rally going.
Miami pulled off a two-out rally from the bottom of the lineup in the fourth inning. Scott Cousins reached base on an infield single and scored on a Wade LeBlanc double to left field. LeBlanc pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Marlins and allowed one run on five hits.
Atlanta cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth inning. Chipper Jones had a one-out walk and Freeman followed with a single to left-center field. After David Ross flew out to right, former Marlin Dan Uggla doubled into left field to score Jones.
