2018 FHSAA Playoffs Regional Final Results

     The FHSAA playoffs played their regional final games in South Florida over this past weekend. 17 high schools were in these contests.
     Class 8A in Region 4 had #1 Deerfield Beach defeat #3 Palm Beach Central 24-13. In region 4, #1 Columbus handled #6 South Dade 54-28. Deerfield Beach will host Columbus in the state semiinal on Friday night. The Bucks were home in a state semifinal two years ago against Miami Southridge and lost.
     Class 7A in Region 4 saw #1 St. Thomas Aquinas blank #2 Dwyer 35-0. STA stopped the Panthers in the postseason for the third time in four seasons. They have won 14 regional final contests in the last 15 years. The Raiders will stay at home and play Venice in the state semifinal game for the third straight year.
     Region 4 of Class 6A was once again decided by two District 16 rivals. The defending FHSAA Class 6A state champion #6 Miami Northwestern upended #5 Miami Central 19-15. The Bulls head out west for the state semifinal and face Naples.
     Class 5A in Region 4 also had two District 16 rivals tangle. #2 Cardinal Gibbons knocked off the two-time defending Class 5A state champion #5 American Heritage 35-7. The Chiefs got revenge from losing a triple overtime game last year against the Patriots. Cardinal Gibbons will host Jesuit in the next round.
     Region 4 in Class 4A had #1 University School beat #3 Glades Central 45-14. It was the second straight season that the Raiders fell to the Sharks in the playoffs. University will have to travel north and challenge Cocoa in a state semifinal like they did last year.
     Class 3A in Region 4 saw the defending FHSAA Class 3A state champion Chaminade-Madonna get by #3 American Heritage 14-3. The Lions travel to Clearwater Central Catholic for a second straight season in the state semifinal. #1 Kings Academy stayed alive as they edged #2 First Academy 23-22. TKA heads up to Tallahassee and takes out Florida State University High in the following round.
     The defending Class 2A state champion #5 Champagnat Catholic topped Neumann 21-10 in a Region 4 regional final. They face Admiral Farragut in the state semifinal on Friday night. #2 Pahokee lost the regional final in Class 1A of Region 4 to Hawthorne 25-6.
