The Glades Central Raiders make a trip to Dade County and take on the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes in a Class 4A regional semifinal at Traz Powell Stadium on Thursday night. Both schools have a strong tradition of winning state championships over the years.
They met each other in the FHSAA playoffs four consecutive years from 2013 until 2016 with Booker T. Washington victorious every time. The Raiders have never beaten the Tornadoes in their history.
Glades Central Raiders(8-3) have compiled six straight wins. The Raiders beat Pahokee 22-12 in the Muck Bowl two weeks ago and squashed Coral Springs Charter 55-10 last week. They have outscored their last six opponents 224-67.
The Raiders offense look towards quarterback Davius Richard to bring the team down the field. Their impact will be with their passing attack as wide receivers Jymetre Hester, Ja'Vontae Williams, Odieu Hilaire and Densa Washington are expected to get open for Richard. Running back Jaheim Humphries gets most of the carries from the backfield.
Do not let the regular season record of Booker T. Washington(5-5) deceive anyone. Their losses have been to quality playoff teams that includes Miami Central, Columbus, Miami Northwestern, Chaminade-Madonna and Carol City. They have not played a contest in three weeks. They had a bye in the final week of the regular season and received a first-round bye last week due to the new Class 4A playoff format.
