The American Heritage Stallions visit the Benjamin Buccaneers in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday night in a Class 3A regional semifinal. Both schools are in Palm Beach County and have rarely faced each other over the past decade.
American Heritage(8-3) won their first five games of the regular season then lost three straight games. The Stallions enter this game on a three-game win streak and outscored those opponents 100-20. They comprised their schedule this year of teams outside of Palm Beach County except for Glades Central. They defeated Calvary Christian 42-14 in the first round last week.
The Stallions can mix up their offense with the run and the pass. Running backs Dallis Small and Steve Barrett will get their rushing opportunities from the backfield. Quarterback Zachary Bohannon can pass the ball to wide receivers Conner Hindsley, Winston Hill, Fredrick Cage, Deion Small and Jamal Potts.
Benjamin(9-1) won their first nine games of the year and fell on the road to Kings Academy 22-21 in the season finale. The Buccaneers had a first-round bye due to the new playoff format in Class 3A. They have outscored their opponents 341-95 this season.
The Buccaneers will rely more on their passing attack. Quarterback Santino Marucci can throw the ball to several wide receivers that includes Kalir Elam, Joseph Mariani, Roshaune Downie and Tommy Rooney. Running backs Joseph Labovick and Joshua Pierre-Louis are expected to get the bulk of the carries.
