The Chaminade-Madonna Lions rolled over the University School Sharks 35-0 at AutoNation Field in Davie on Friday night. Both schools are still expected to be the first seed in their own classification regions for the upcoming FHSAA postseason.
After a scoreless first, Chaminade-Madonna(8-2) scored on the first play of the second quarter seven seconds in. Running back Thaddius Franklin ran around the left end from two yards out.
University School(9-1) quarterback Nick Vattiato threw an interception on a screen pass that defensive lineman Cameron Williams picked off at the Sharks six-yard line. Gabriel Gomez finished the drive on a 22-yard field goal at the 9:29 mark for a 10-0 lead.
The Lions made it a 17-point lead on their next possession at 7:52. Quarterback Daelen Menard found wide receiver John Dunmore on a 31-yard touchdown pass.
Menard connected another touchdown pass to Dunmore in the front of the end zone by the left hash marks from eight yards away with 26 seconds left in the first half and the Lions led 24-0.
In the third quarter, Gomez converted on another short field goal with 3:59 to go. Franklin scored on a 65-yard touchdown run at 11:05 of the fourth quarter and Chaminade-Madonna made a two-point conversion for a 35-0 gap. A running clock was implemented for the remainder of the game.
