It was an old district rivalry from 15 years ago renewed as the Boca Raton Bobcats held off the Dwyer Panthers 21-14 on Wednesday night in the Boca Raton High School spring football jamboree. The Bobcats ended up sweeping both games against the Panthers and Vero Beach.
Boca Raton scored to move ahead 7-0 at the 5:17 mark of the first quarter. Running back Halin Elmon rushed up the middle for a five-yard touchdown.
The Bobcats extended their margin to 14 points on their next possession at 1:59. Quarterback Michael Pratt tossed a four-yard pass to wide receiver Stalens Demeus on the left side of the end zone.
It looked like Boca Raton was going for the rout early in the second quarter as they took their first possession deep into enemy territory. They lost the ball on downs at the Panthers 13-yard line. Dwyer scored on their first play from scrimmage when wide receiver Markell Lee caught a pass in the middle of the field and outraced the Boca Raton secondary for a 87-yard touchdown with 10:51 left.
Bobcats wide receiver Molinsky Desire caught a 45-yard pass on the left hash marks from Pratt at the Dwyer 42-yard line. They eventually increased their gap to 21-7 with 3:07 remaining as Pratt sprinted to the left side and ran in from 11 yards out.
Dwyer did not quit and reached the end zone with 2:04 to go. They scored on a 41-yard touchdown pass and trailed 21-14.
