The Chicago Cubs waited until the ninth inning to defeat the Miami Marlins 5-2 at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night. The Marlins have fallen in four of their last five contests. The Cubs have been victorious in eight of their last nine games.
Chicago(20-13) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Javier Baez hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Kris Bryant scored.
In the third inning, Miami(10-25) put up two runs and took the lead. Martin Prado doubled to deep center to score Curtis Granderson. Two batters later, Jorge Alfaro knocked in Prado with a base hit into left-center field.
Albert Almora tied the game 2-2 in the bottom half of the third. He cranked a solo home run to center field on a full count.
The Cubbies had their opportunities in the ninth inning and finally cashed in with a walk-off victory. Bryant smashed a three-run homer to center field on a 1-2 pitch for his sixth home run of the season. Kyle Schwarber and Almora both scored on the play in front of him.
