The Cardinal Newman Crusaders shut out the Santaluces Chiefs 21-0 in a two-quarter game at Sam Budnyk Field in West Palm Beach on Friday. It was the first game of the Cardinal Newman High School spring football jamboree.
The Crusaders made it 7-0 at the 2:07 mark of the first quarter. Running back Chris D'Or rushed through the middle from one yard out.
Santaluces tried to respond on their next possession. Cardinal Newman defensive back Daniel Sledge intercepted a pass on left sideline and returned it untouched for a 27-yard touchdown with 1:11 left in the first.
The Chiefs allowed another score with 5:22 remaining in the second quarter. Crusaders running back Domineco Fusca raced down the left side on a 31-yard touchdown.
