Lockhart Stadium Completely Demolished

The final part of Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale was ripped down this week. The demolition of the facility began on May 8. A new stadium will be built for Inter Miami CF. They are expected to have their Major League Soccer inaugural season in 2020.
It will be the return for MLS to that stadium location. The Miami Fusion played at Lockhart Stadium from 1998 to 2001.
Lockhart Stadium was the home of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers from 1977 to 2016. The team had two stints in the North American Soccer League from 1977 to 1983 along with 2011 to 2016. The Strikers also participated in the American Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League and United Soccer League.
The annual Soul Bowl high school football game between the Blanche Ely Tigers and the Dillard Panthers was held there for many decades until 2016. The venue also hosted several FHSAA soccer championships during the mid 2000s.
The Florida Atlantic University Owls football team also held their home games there from 2002 until 2010. FAU moved on to their campus at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton.
