The Miami Marlins edged the New York Mets 2-1 at loanDepot park on Friday night. Marlins manager Skip Schumaker chalked up his first victory in the majors. The Marlins and Mets continued their four-game weekend series to begin the 2023 regular season.
Miami(1-1) got up 1-0 in the bottom of the second. Jorge Soler powerd a solo home run to right-center field on the first pitch from Mets starting pitcher David Peterson. It was the first homer by Soler during the 2023 campaign.
The Marlins extended it to 2-0 in the eighth inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. lined a solo homer over the right-field wall on a 2-1 pitch against John Curtiss or his first home run in 2023.
