Miami(34-45) scored three runs in the first inning and two runs in the top of the third for a five-run margin. San Francisco(44-37) answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third and three runs during the fourth inning to tie it up 5-5.
The Marlins responded with three runs in the top of the fifth for an 8-5 advantage. They pulled away with four more runs in the eighth inning and led 12-5.
