LeBron James drove through the lane and scored a game-winning layup with 3.2 seconds left as the Miami Heat won their 16th straight game in their 97-96 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night at American Airlines Arena. The Heat moved to 27-3 at home this season.
With the exception of two ties during the opening quarter, Miami(45-14) led 25-18 after one quarter. They sustained their margin of more than five points during the second quarter and were up 55-40 at halftime.
Orlando(17-45) gave up the first five points of the second half and fell behind by 20 points. They bounced back with a 23-11 rally and were behind 71-63 with 3:12 left in the third quarter. Miami was barely ahead 77-74 at the end of the period.
The Magic pulled off a 12-4 spurt to go up 86-81 with 8:29 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Heat followed with six straight points. Jameer Nelson nailed a field goal from the left side to give Orlando a 96-93 lead with 1:36 left. Miami closed the gap down to one point on two free throws by Chris Bosh with 38 seconds to go. The Heat took the lead on their final possession with 3.2 seconds as James busted through with a layup.
Dwyane Wade knocked in 24 points with six rebounds and four steals in 39 minutes while James powered through with 26 points in 38 minutes for the Heat. Bosh got a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in 33 minutes.
The Magic picked up a double-double by Nikola Vucevic with 25 points and 21 rebounds in 42 minutes. He had an Orlando franchise-record with 29 rebounds against Miami back on December 31. Nelson added 16 points and 14 assists in 43 minutes. Tobias Harris had 16 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes. Aaron Afflalo dropped down 13 points with five assists.
