The Miami Heat extended their winning streak to 25 games and rolled to victory in the second half as they beat the Detroit Pistons 103-89 on Friday night at American Airlines Arena. They now stand eight games away from tying the NBA record held by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers. The Heat improved their home record to 31-3.
Detroit(23-47) began the first quarter strong and led 28-22 after one quarter. The Pistons increased their lead into double digits at 48-37 with 4:24 left in the first half. The Heat put in the next eight points and were down 54-51 at halftime.
Miami(54-14) went on a 21-9 rally at the end of the third quarter to lead 73-68. The Pistons came within five points at 81-76 with 8:18 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Heat scored 11 consecutive points and got a double-digit lead.
The Heat were led by LeBron James with 29 points, eight assists and eight rebounds in 40 minutes of play. Dwyane Wade had 19 points with four assists in 38 minutes while Mario Chalmers got 11 points and four steals in 26 minutes. Bench scoring appeared as Shane Battier contributed 11 points and Norris Cole added 10 points.
Greg Monroe picked up a double-double for the Pistons with 23 points, 15 rebounds and six assists in 41 minutes. Jose Calderon scored 18 points with seven rebounds in 43 minutes while Kyle Singler knocked down 18 points with eight rebounds.
