The Miami Heat had their 27-game win streak snapped by the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night as they lost 101-97 at United Center. The Heat attempted to break the NBA record of 33 consecutive wins by the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1971-72 season. Miami ends up holding the second longest winning streak in NBA history and in American professional sports.
Chicago(39-32) knew the importance of this game at they scored the first five points and started a 13-2 spurt. Miami(56-15) remained in a hole and were down 32-22 after one quarter. The Bulls held a double-digit lead for most of the second quarter and were up 55-46 at halftime.
The Heat came out in the second half on a 13-3 rally and took the lead 59-58 with 4:20 remaining in the third quarter. Chicago still had the lead 69-68 at the end of the period. Miami tied the game 69-69 one minute into the fourth, but they never recaptured the lead for the entire final quarter. The Bulls kept the thruttle up and extended the margin to nine points later in the period.
LeBron James had 32 points and seven rebounds in 40 minutes for the Heat, who lost their first game since the first week of February. Chris Bosh added 21 points in 35 minutes and Dwyane Wade got 18 points with seven rebounds in 38 minutes.
Carlos Boozer picked up a double-double for the Bulls with 21 points and 17 rebounds in 39 minutes of play. Luol Deng dropped in 28 points with seven rebounds and five assists during his 44 minutes. Jimmy Butler contributed 17 points and Nate Robinson scored 14 points.
