Predators Surprise Panthers

The Nashville Predators upended the Florida Panthers 2-1 at FLA Live Arena on Thursday night. The Panthers begin a seven-game homestand, which is their longest of the 2022-23 campaign. Casey Fitzgerald made his home debut with the Panthers.
Nashville(29-23-6) scored on the power play with 6:20 left in the first period for a 1-0 lead. Matt Duchene exchanged the puck with Luke Evangelista and then snapped a shot from the top right circle for his 19th goal this season. Roman Josi was credited with a secondary assist on the play.
The Predators increased their lead to 2-0 with 10.2 second left in the first. Josi gave the puck from the left point to Cody Glass on the left wing and he returned it to the middle on a blind backhand pass. Josi skated through the low slot, angled a pass to his left and John Leonard scooped in a backhand shot from the crease area past Sergei Bobrovsky for his first goal of the year.
In the second period, Florida(30-26-6) closed it to 2-1 at the 3:21 mark off a turnover. Radko Gudas sent the puck from his own blue line. Ryan Lomberg went down the right side on a 3-on-1 breakaway. He slid the puck across from the low right circle and Brandon Montour tapped it in by Kevin Lankinen from the top of the crease for his 11th goal of the campaign.
