Giants Chomp Marlins

     The San Francisco Giants held off the Miami Marlins 4-2 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins have lost seven of their last 11 games. The Giants scored at least four runs for the first time in 14 games. Xavier Edwards tied a Marlins franchise record with five base hits in one game going 5-for-5 at the plate. 
     San Francisco(33-26) pushed ahead 1-0 in the top of the third. Wilmer Flores grounded out to second and Heliot Ramos scored. 
     The Giants increased their lead to 4-0 during the fourth inning. Luis Matos walloped a three-run homer to left field on a 1-0 pitch with Casey Schmitt and Patrick Bailey aboard. It was the fourth home run for Matos in the 2025 campaign. 
     Miami(23-34) cut the deficit to 4-1 in the sixth inning. Otto Lopez knocked in Xavier Edwards with a single into center field. 
     The Marlins made it 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh. Edwards came up with the bases loaded and picked up an infield hit to the left side for Eric Wagaman to cross the plate.
