The second week of the FHSAA Playoffs in South Florida begins on Thursday night as the Deerfield Beach Bucks challenge the Miami Palmetto Panthers at Tropical Park in a Class 8A regional semifinal. Both have made long runs in the postseason during the last five years.
Deerfield Beach(9-2) have won six consecutive games and compiled shutouts in four of their last six contests. They handled Boca Raton Bobcats 21-7 in the regional quarterfinal last week. The Bucks have outscored their opponents 367-65 this year.
Running back Jaziun Patterson leads the Bucks offense with their rushing attack and can score from any distance. Luke Collins and Michael Merdinger can guide their team at quarterback. A.J. Jenkins and Joseph Kennely look to get open for pass receptions.
Miami Palmetto(8-2) looks to make a deep playoff run like they did in 2020. The Panthers fell to the Osceola Kowboys 9-3 at Traz Powell Stadium in the state semifinal game last year. They have won two straight contests and outscored their opponents 303-107 this season. Miami Palmetto was able to hammer Coral Glades 56-21 last week in a regional quarterfinal.
