New York(7-3-3) got out to a 1-0 lead on the power play at the 7:52 mark of the first period. Ryan Strome backhanded the puck from the right corner to the crease. Mika Zibanejad had his initial shot stopped by Spencer Knight, however Chris Kreider tapped it in from the right of the crease for his ninth goal of the season.
It became 2-0 for the Blueshirts with 5.9 seconds remaining in the first as they scored a shorthanded tally. Zibanejad carried it into the Panthers zone from center ice and lateraled a backhand pass from the high slot to the right wing. Barclay Goodrow whipped the puck to a wide open Adam Fox in the high slot and he lifted a backhand shot from the low slot for his third goal this year.
In the second period, the Rangers increased their lead to 3-0 with 7:12 left on a 4-on-4 goal. Kreider made an outlet pass to the middle. K'Andre Miller carried the puck thorough the neutral zone, down the right wing, around MacKenzie Weegar and released a wrist shot from the top of the crease.
Florida(10-1-1) surrendered another 4-on-4 goal just 30 seconds later. Jacob Trouba forwarded the puck ahead to Artemi Panarin at the Panthers blue line. He went in on a 2-on-1 breakaway, slid it across the slot and Strome roofed a forehand shot from the low right circle. It was the Rangers fourth goal during a seven-shot span. The Cats went into the third period trailing for the first time this season.
The Panthers broke the shutout 20 seconds into the third period and were down 4-1. Aaron Ekblad fired a slap shot which was saved. Mason Marchment tapped the puck back and Eetu Luostarinen poked it in from the top of the crease past Igor Shesterkin for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Florida Panthers cut it to 4-2 with 1:26 left in third. Radko Gudas pushed the puck from the right point to the right wing. Owen Tippett backhanded a centering pass and Sam Reinhart scored on a snap shot from the high slot.
It became 4-3 with 40.1 seconds to go. Aleksander Barkov won the faceoff in the left circle and Patric Hornqvist scored on a wrist shot from the inner left circle.
