The Glades Central Raiders defeated the American Heritage Stallions 34-20 at The Corral in Delray Beach on Friday night in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal contest. It was the first postseason clash between both schools because they never played in the same classification. The Raiders have won six of the 11 meetings against the Stallions in this Palm Beach County rivalry.
Glades Central(6-5) scored on their first possession at the 8:18 mark. Running back Kienaskia Workman plunged up the middle from five yards out to make it 6-0.
The Raiders increased it to 13-0 with 3:50 left in the first. Workman found the end zone again on another touchdown run from four yards away.
American Heritage(5-5) go on the scoreboard at 10:00 of the second quarter and they trailed 13-3. Jake Weinberg was able to kick a 25-yard field goal.
It was a quick response by Glades Central 14 seconds later on the first play of the ensuing drive. Running back Semaj Demps got the ball on a short toss from quarterback Garrison Kepley and he sprinted 80 yards for the score. The Raiders were able to convert on a two-point conversion play and expanded it to 20-3.
The Raiders added to their lead near the end of the first half. Kepley found wide receiver Robert Luckas on a 17-yard touchdown pass. Running back Everic Morgan scored on a two-point conversion run to make it 28-3 with 1:02 remaining in the second.
In the third quarter, the Stallions cut it to 28-6 at the 7:41 mark. Weinberg got to boot a 27-yard field goal.
Glades Central pulled off another score on a fourth-down play. Kepley fired a 39-yard touchdown pass to Demps on the right side of the end zone for a 34-6 lead with 2:34 left in the third. It was the third touchdown completion by Kepley in the contest.
American Heritage got a score on a special teams play at the 8:50 mark of the fourth quarter and they were down 35-13. The Raiders had a punt blocked and Tavares Parker recovered the ball in the end zone.
The Stallions closed the deficit to 34-20 late in the fourth. Running back Clayton Cannon rushed through the left side from two yards away.
