The Boston Red Sox took the Miami Marlins 7-3 in 11 innings at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins will complete their six-game homestand tomorrow.
The BoSox extended their winning streak to five games. Red Sox relief pitcher Tyron Guerrero made his first loanDepot park appearance since he played for the Miami Marlins in 2019.
Boston(73-59) broke out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Mickey Gasper lifted a solo home run on a 0-1 pitch barely over the right-center field fence for his fourth homer of the year.
Miami(67-66) pulled even 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Brian Navarretto drove in Leo Jimenez with a sacrifice fly to center field.
It became 2-1 for the Red Sox in the top of the sixth. Gasper powered a solo homer to center field on a 1-1 count for his second home run of the contest and fifth home run of the campaign.
The Marlins tied it up 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Heriberto Hernandez crushed a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch for his 20th home run of the season.
Boston took a 3-2 advantage in the top of the 10th. Connor Wong was able to cross the plate on a passed ball.
The Fish made it 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th. Javier Sanoja struck out on a wild pitch and Navarreto scored.
The contest completely changed in the 11th inning as the Red Sox piled on four runs and led 7-3. Jarren Duran smashed a grand-slam home run to right-center field on a 1-0 count for his 18th homer in 2026. Willson Contreras, Jahmai Jones and Andruw Monasterio scored in front of him on the play. It was the first time that the Marlins surrendered an extra-inning, grand-slam home run since 2013.
